In this article, we will introduce you to three powerful AI tools currently receiving a lot of attention: ChatGPT, Copilot Chat, and Copilot for Microsoft 365. What exactly do they do? How are they different? And what about cost, privacy, and security?

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a generative AI chatbot that helps you write, brainstorm, code, and more. Built by OpenAI, ChatGPT is one of the most well-known AI models in the world. Trained on massive amounts of text, it can understand and generate human language surprisingly well. Whether you want to write a LinkedIn post, have a code problem, or need a creative brainstorm, ChatGPT generates answers to your questions in no time, based on all the information it has gathered. Copilot Chat

Copilot Chat is the "free" Copilot available at copilot.microsoft.com. It works similarly to ChatGPT, as it does not integrate with your Microsoft environment and is therefore accessed through a public portal. It is like a smart colleague who helps you analyze files, brainstorm, and write throughout the workday.

Copilot for Microsoft 365 can identify trends in Excel and automatically generate charts from raw data.

Copilot for Microsoft 365

Copilot for Microsoft 365 adds a secure AI layer on top of your trusted Office apps like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. This means it is integrated into the programs themselves and can summarize documents you open, compose emails for you, and analyze data, without using your data to further train the models.

Costs, privacy and security

As you can see, there is a significant difference in the level of integration and security of customer data between the three systems. A brief comparison:

Privacy and security: what can you set yourself?

You may already have started using one of the tools mentioned. We'd like to share these practical tips with you to improve privacy and security within your organization.

ChatGPT:

Use the settings to disable your chat history (Settings > Data Controls).
Preferably use a corporate account or incognito mode for sensitive information.
Make sure you don't enter any personal data or confidential data.
ChatGPT pro: Disable "Improve the model for everyone" in the settings.

Copilot Chat:

Manage which features are available via Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
Enable logging and monitoring for agent use.
Use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for additional protection.

Copilot for Microsoft 365:

Ensure that Microsoft Purview is configured for data classification.
Use DLP (Data Loss Prevention) policies.
Activate audit logging and manage access via Azure AD Conditional Access.
