The growing Overmeer Logistics builds a solid IT foundation

Every day, around 400,000 trucks travel the roads of the Netherlands. It’s a massive logistical operation, involving not only regular goods but also (non-)hazardous liquid substances being transported from point A to point B. A unique niche within the logistics sector, in which Overmeer Logistics from Mijnsheerenland has firmly established itself. With a fleet of approximately 110 vehicles, they handle daily transport assignments within the chemical industry.

Tank transport in the chemical industry

They do this with around 170 colleagues, who work together to move and maintain all tank containers, tankers, and flexitanks. To fully relieve its customers, Overmeer operates on a “one-stop-shop” principle. This includes cleaning, heating, repairing, and storing tanks.

A growing team at the office

To manage all this tank transport efficiently, an experienced office team is now also in place. They handle numerous daily requests, manage planning, certifications, administrative processing, and more. It was in the summer of 2024 that we at Agerion IT received a call with some exploratory questions.

IT within a growing organization

By approaching this professionalization thoughtfully in terms of IT, the organization was able to look ahead in a timely and structured way. Workplace management and the internal network have since been modernized, and major steps have also been taken in the area of cybersecurity.

Preventing data leaks

“For example, Overmeer Logistics now uses Mimecast and a Password Manager,” shares Arthihan Velauthapillai. “This allows for much more centralized control. A crucial element when an organization is growing: maintaining control. New devices and accounts are constantly being added. You don’t want these to become potential risk factors. By proactively monitoring, updating, and supporting all devices, we ensure that Overmeer can continue to grow in a healthy and secure way.”

Looking ahead

Michelle Michels: “Our request also stemmed from the increasing importance of cybersecurity and, for example, the tightened NIS2 legislation. The world is changing rapidly. We want to be prepared for everything that’s coming our way in terms of IT.”
